Tour de France 2017
With the 2016 Tour de France 'ignited' by Chris Froome's Pyrenean attack on the descent off the Col de Peyresourde, we expect even more fireworks on our local climbs when they play host to mountain stages of the 2017 Tour.
Local 'insider knowledge' tells us there will be a summit finish at our nearest ski resort (Peyragudes) and we will learn more detail about the other Pyrenean stages when the Tour de France route announcement is made on 19th October.
The peloton on the Col d'Aspin
PyrActif will be providing our usual mix of great spectating opportunities, fabulous riding, rider-friendly logistics, comfortable accommodation and good food, to put you at the heart of the action at each of the Pyrenean stages. You'll be able to enjoy the drama of the high mountains and the unmatchable atmosphere as the race passes by 'within touching distance'.
Our itinerary will be designed with riders at the forefront of our planning. So if you're keen that your own pedaling should be just as memorable as the race spectating experiences, then this is very much the trip for you.
Sun 9th July
Arrive into Toulouse airport. Mid-day transfer onwards to your accommodation in the Central Pyrenees, followed by bike-building and an introductory/warm-up ride of around 50km.
Mon 10th - Wed 12th July
A mix of guided or self-guided rides 'from our front door' to include opportunities to climb any of the dozen or so notable Tour climbs situated within 5-50km of our base. Typical ride lengths can be flexed between 60-120km with 500m-2500m of elevation gain. On most riders 'target list' for this part of the week will be summits such as the Cols de Tourmalet, Peyresourde & Aspin, the Port de Bales, Col du Portillon, Col de Mente, Superbagneres, Col de Portet d'Aspet & Pla d'Adet..
Thu 13th July
We will ride to a superb vantage point on the upper slopes of the climb to Peyragudes, giving ourselves a 'long view' of the decisive climb on today's stage (we should be able to see riders approaching from almost 2km away). We'll enjoy the unique experience of our own ride through the thronging race-day crowds, the carnival atmosphere of the promotional caravan passing by and then the high drama which only a stage-deciding climb can provide.
Fri 14th & Sat 15th July
Hang onto your hats, because we expect two more excellent stages within straightforward travel distance of our base. For both, we'll aim to ride to a notable point on the route to put you at the heart of the action when the race passes by.
Sun 16th July
Transfer back to Toulouse airport in time to catch afternoon or evening flights.
